The Reception area at Central Plains Eye (CPE) is furnished and equipped with our patients' comfort and interests in mind. The front lobby provides well lit reading areas and a large screen television for friends and family members who prefer not to accompany the patient through the exam. Both WiFi and a public computer station are available in Reception.

CPE patients are greeted in Reception and personally assisted with check-in. Please refer to the checklist provided to expedite your visit.

Patients new to CPE will be assisted by a patient representative in collecting basic demographics and necessary past medical history details. We guarantee no patient is ever handed a clipboard with a copy of a copy of a paper quiz.

A clinic technician will then escort the patient through preliminary testing which includes visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, and initial pre-dilation evaluations. We encourage one additional person accompany each patient through his/her entire exam. This assures optimal communication and, in many circumstances, added patient safety.

*Please note that we require all cell phones be turned OFF, or at least placed on vibrate mode, beyond the Reception area. Any calls deemed urgent should be taken or made outside exam and treatment areas without exception.

Drops to dilate your eye(s) will be instilled and you will be escorted to a dimly lit alcove. You will be moved to the doctor's exam lane once your pupils are adequately dilated. The doctor and his assistant / scribe will then see you for the detailed examination and discussion of your initial findings. Careful review of your trends will be discussed on all follow-ups. Imaging / testing studies required to determine specific diagnoses and response to prior treatment will follow, with or without additional physician-patient conference. It is not uncommon for your doctor to review your case and study test results after normal clinic hours. Additional communication with regards to exam findings and recommended treatment options will follow as soon as possible. These are facilitated by highly trained clinic staff including ophthalmic technicians, a registered nurse and our Physician's Assistant.
